Remember to take your mittens and ear muffs!

December 5, 2009

I did go to Gaylord Palm's ICE and was it cold (as expected for an all ice event)! Parkas with hoods are provided but be sure to take your mittens. It was a great event and worth going to this year if you have not been yet. If you have been in the past, this year the Florida hotel has brought new ice sculpture themes into the event and even "whimsical winter wonderland of larger-than-life, three-dimensional hand-carved ice monuments and sculptures, including fantastic frozen creations, slippery ice slides..." What I found interesting was that the 40 member team who carve the ice are from Harbin, China! Gaylord Palms ICE!, in Kissimmee, till January 2, 2010. Nice and cold with a free small hot coco waiting for you after. View more pics on Flickr

To Boycott or Not? ICE or No ICE?

November 15, 2009

Well this time last year I tried to get Media Passes to cover a local event in advance for you, but luck was not on my side (if you believe in that kind of thing.) Read what happened last year and why I was, well, flustered and frozen out of ICE. Not sure if I am going to try again this year. Maybe they will have a new smart PR person...

October 19, 2009

If you missed the first ever Boktoberfest over the weekend, you missed out! With free admission to Bok Tower Gardens all ages were at the event. Beer, interesting plants, beer, music, beer, friends, tree climbing, oh did I mention beer? I am not a big Sam Adams fan but there were enough people to drink about 15 kegs worth. Yep, there were 15 kegs, drank by 2pm. But I did not see any disorderly conduct. Every one was well behaved. If you go next year be sure to arrive early as parking was packed. Bok Tower Gardens is on Twitter (@edwardwbok, who btw coined the term, living room) as well as Facebook. Keep reading to see some pics of the event.

Rock the Universe 2010

September 16, 2009

"Free Hugs", "high five" and "marco - polo" seemed to be randomly yelled in the park throughout the night. I even got tagged by a random kid for "tag your it". Just teenagers having a good time. If you ask those in attendance what band they want to see during the night the answer...

Redneck Games ‘n Mud Obstacle Course in One Place! (video) – Update

August 28, 2009

Another update with 2 more videos! Update 8/29 - 2 New videos from the games. The famous beer can torch and Bobbin for Pigs Feet Last weekend I made my first trek out to the Lakeland Motorsports Park Mud Hole with my bf and boy was it worth the trip! Plus it really was not that far... I am a city girl at best and sometimes a girly girly who is not big into getting my feet dirty. But I was prepared! I bought boots, like the kind my dad uses to go fishing. My feet were not going to get dirty or wet! I'll be wearing the boots out again tomorrow (8/29) for the Reality Redneck Games and the Mud Obstacle Course. Never seen a mud pit? Of course I shot some video! (It's a different clip than on Lakeland Local)

This is the second video in the series - I am visiting the local bars to see how they make a Martini. Enjoy drinking original Martini creations made by your local bartenders at the Imperial Symphony Orchestra’s Annual “Music & Martinis” event. It may not be their featured martini, as who would want them to give up the secret drink before the competition. Included in the ticket - hors d'oeuvres from Harry's Bar & Grill, Aramark and the Antiquarian Restaurant; two signature martinis prepared by celebrity bartenders from Polk County establishments; cash bar available; and a performance by the Imperial Symphony Orchestra. Second up - Bro and Linkster's in Downtown Lakeland - keep reading to watch the video.

Step Into The World Of Animation

July 7, 2009

Step into the world of animation at Animation’s MOSI’s latest exhibit which opens this Friday, July 10. According the to MOSI web site you will “explore animation from concept to finished product — from storyboarding, character design, and drawing techniques to movement, timing, filming, and sound. Larger-than-life graphics of popular Cartoon Network characters provide a colorful backdrop to the exhibit, which also explores the history of animation and features a screening room and a cartoon museum.” It’s a great time to take the kids (or a significant other) and see this latest exhibit and to watch a movie in the IMAX dome theatre.
