The big story is wildfires raging through east central Florida.  The Sentinel tells us hundreds are evacuated as wildfires close I-95.  The Ledger also knows that more are forced to flee central Florida wildfires.  The Tribune, however says the big story is the movie remake of the 2000 Florida voting debacle and recount by HBO.

Orlando’s local story says that newly converted urban dwellers, drawn from the suburbs by the allure of night life and amenities just a short jaunt away, are realizing city life comes at a price.  In Sanford, residents are complaining about the noise in their urban neighborhoods.  The city’s recent success in attracting after-hours patrons led to the arrests of two nightclub operators for violating the city’s existing noise ordinance.

The Ledger says the Mayfaire Art Festival attracted about 70,000 people.

The Tribune says lawmakers don’t know what to do with society’s sex offenders.

Tribune editorial board says Private-School Students Deserve Chance On Public-School Fields - In the waning days of the legislative session, lawmakers passed a pilot project allowing private-school students to play sports on public-school teams…  Gov. Charlie Crist, a supporter of school choice and youth athletics, should sign the bill.

The Ledger board talks Of Waste And Garbage - Republic Services of Florida wants to expand a landfill’s use to make a Class I, 73-acre landfill on the site. While the agreement with the city precludes “residential garbage,” the landfill owners have said they want to bring in “commercial garbage.”  A provision prohibiting Class I landfills in the city limits was placed in the City Code some time ago, after more than half the city’s registered voters signed a petition calling for a referendum to include the ban. The commission added it without holding a referendum.

Orlando editors want to give kids a break:  Orange’s School Board should support giving high schools a later start time - The vote will require facing down hundreds of angry parents Tuesday, but Orange County School Board members ought to swap the starting times of middle schools and high schools so that older students can begin classes later in the morning.
